Halloween comes every year. As the spooky date approaches, big bags of sugary sweets begin to line the foremost shelves in grocery stores across the country. The enticing displays of candy beckon young and old people alike to indulge in the yummy treats, and that's exactly what most people do the night of Halloween! Whether it's caramels, chocolate, or lollipops you fancy, here's what you need to know about how to keep your teeth safe from all of the sugar monsters out there on October 31st.
1) Don't be tempted to eat all of your candy; moderation is key. We know, we know – it's hard! However, candy is basically all sugar, and sugar is one of the worst things you can eat in terms of your teeth. It promotes the development of decay, and – trust us – a toothache is much more scary than any costume you'll see on Halloween.
2) Instead of candy, think of some creative ways to partake in creepy Halloween food fun. What about ghoulish smiles made out of apples, peanut butter, and slices of almonds? How about dark chocolate-dipped fruit? These snacks are far better options compared to candy high in added sugar.
3) Avoid sticky candy at all costs! Sticky candy attaches to your teeth and attacks your enamel. A piece of dark chocolate is always a better idea. Or broccoli...;)
