Summer can be fun and healthy

Summer can be fun and healthy

Summer is in full swing, and we love to savor every bit of sunshine and warm weather we can get here in Maine. The kids are out of school, and there are plenty of fun summer activities to keep them busy for the next couple of months. Whether it's a day at the beach or an afternoon out by the pool, we want to give parents a few tips to help keep their little ones smiling and safe!

1) Keep a close eye on kids who are biking or rollerblading. Make sure they have helmets and protective elbow pads and knee pads on to protect them if they should fall. These protective measures can go a long way to prevent head and facial injuries.

2) If your child is playing contact sports, make sure he or she wears a custom-fit mouthguard. A collision with another player or a fall to the ground can result in broken teeth, so it's important to protect their smiles while they play.

3) Be especially cautious around the pool. Make sure to keep the areas surrounding the pool dry and free of obstacles to prevent slipping and falling.

Summer is a time to enjoy nature and time with loved ones – not a time to be in pain from a toothache or mouth injury! Keep your little ones safe, and make sure to visit the dentist for twice-yearly cleanings to keep their smiles bright and healthy.
